Cave diving can kill

Diving beyond the daylight zone of a cave or cenote takes cave training and certification, the right equipment and experience. Trained, experienced divers have died in caves. Never go beyond your training and limits, and never enter a cave you don't know without a qualified local guide.

In a cenote, the cavern - the part where daylight still shows the way out - can be dived with cavern training and a guide; beyond it is the cave, for trained cave divers only.

The information on OpenCaves is shared by its community. It can be incomplete, inaccurate or out of date, and it is not suitable for planning or conducting a dive. You use it at your own risk: always check with local guides, dive centres and landowners before you go. See the Terms of service.
